The Elves and the Shoemaker - Quade

Once upon a time there was a shoemaker and he had a wife and he made shoes. He had no money. One morning he and his wife woke up and saw a pair of shoes. They were amazed a pair of shoes was there. A rich person walked in the shoemaker’s door and she said to the shoemaker “Can I buy those shoes?” “Yes you can,” said the shoemaker. He now had silver. He had leather so he cut out the leather and went to bed. He woke up and he and his wife were amazed that there was 2 pairs of shoes there. Rich people came and bought the shoes. They went to bed and when he woke up he saw another pair of shoes on his desk. The next day he cut out more shoes and went to bed. The same thing happened. He now could by leather for 4 pairs of shoes and he said “who is making these shoes for us?” he and his wife stayed up and hid behind his desk. Finally the door opened and 2 little elves came in the door and started making shoes for the shoemaker. His wife said “let’s make clothes for the elves.” It took a long time until they had made the clothes. When the elves came to make shoesthey saw their presents and opened the presents. They noticed it was clothes. They took off their ragged clothes and put their new clothes on. They sang and said “We don’t make shoes any more.” Everyone was happy.
