The Elves and the Shoemaker - Jack

Once upon a time a poor old shoemaker and his wife lived in a village and they didn’t have much money to buy food. One night the shoemaker put some leather on his work bench. That night the shoemaker’s wife said “Let’s stay up tonight.” The wife lit a candle and went to the shop. Just then the door opened and two elves dressed in ragged clothes skipped into the shop and up to the work bench and started work. Then the elves left. The next week before Christmas the shoemaker’s wife said “Let’s make some clothes for the elves. You can make two pairs of shoes for them and I will knit two little caps.” That night they stayed up. Just then the door opened and in skipped the elves. They went to the work bench but this time there was no leather on the bench but there was a pile of presents. The elves noticed that they were for them. Then the elves took off their old clothes and put their new ones on. They said “Oh, what handsome boys we are now we will work on shoes no more.” That was the end of the elves!

  1. Jack, I laughed with delight while reading your story. What a wonderful use of words to create a picture of the elves and their shoes! Well done and keep up the great work. Linda
